Biodiesel Offers Relief From High Gas Prices

Released May 01, 2006

Relief from high gas prices is now available to consumers through an alternative fuel source called Biodiesel. Golden Gate Petroleum is now selling the renewable sustainable fuel made from vegetable oil at select locations. Previously only available to fleet and commercial costumers, Golden Gate Petroleum has opened their product to the public and extended their hours to accommodate Bay Area residents tired of paying inflated gas prices.

Currently, Biodiesel, the alternative fuel made from vegetable oil, is being sold at two locations in Martinez and Arcata. In Martinez, Biodiesel, Clear Diesel, Red Diesel, Lubricants, and Racing gas products can be purchased at 3575 Pacheco Ave., Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. In Arcata, Golden Gate Petroleum products B20, Clear Diesel, and gasoline can be purchased at 421 J St., Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Daily gas prices fluctuate with these products, similarly with traditional gas prices, so for the most current price customers are encouraged to call Golden Gate Petroleum at (925) 228-2223.

Biodiesel is produced through a process known as Trans-Esterification. Through Trans-Esterification, vegetable oil is broken down into diesel fuel and glycerin. The glycerin is used in many industries, including the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. Biodiesel is then ready for use in engines. Because Biodiesel comes from vegetable oil, it is both a renewable and sustainable energy source.

The benefits from using Biodiesel include:

Reduction of the amount of global warming gasses into the environment and is much less harmful to the environment compared to similar petroleum products. Reduction of tail pipe pollution from diesel vehicles and production of virtually no soot or smoke.

Among the largest of these benefits is that Biodiesel is good for automobile engines. Golden Gate Petroleum’s customers have reported a noticeable smoother, quieter running engine. In some cases, they report that their engines have more power after using Biodiesel. Also, since Biodiesel is made with vegetable oil that was grown on U.S. farms it reduces dependence on foreign oil and increases jobs by supporting American farmers. These benefits are supported by the increasing number of Bay Area residents ready for an alternative fuel source and the daily drone of increasing gas prices.

Golden Gate Petroleum is a family owned business established in 1946 and has become a major independent supplier of refined petroleum products on the West Coast. With nearly two million gallons of petroleum products sold daily, including gasoline, diesel, lube oil and other industrial fuel oils, Golden Gate Petroleum is excited to introduce Biodiesel available for public consumption.
